Allegedly, a fan inside the Emirates Stadium confronted Manchester United legend, Roy Keane, as he was making his way to perform post-match duties for Sky Sports on Sunday, September 3.
Mail Sport reported that the 52-year-old former Manchester United captain was approached by a man at the top of the West Stand while waiting for a lift to take him down to the pitchside area.
The man supposedly directed a headbutt at Keane, hitting him on the chest and chin. However, he was prevented from causing serious physical harm, as per the report.
Subsequently, Keane was escorted to the pitchside area where he continued his broadcasting.
After the match, a statement from Sky sent to Mail Sport revealed that the police are investigating the alleged assault, during which Micah Richards attempted to defuse the situation.
‘We understand the police are investigating an alleged assault by a member of the public immediately preceding the footage circulating on social media.
‘In the footage seen, Micah Richards was acting to defuse a situation.’
The incident is under investigation by London’s Met Police, as confirmed in their statement: ‘Police are investigating following an assault that is alleged to have occurred at the Emirates Stadium during an Arsenal v Manchester United match on Sunday, 3 September.’
