Dr. Ben was born on September 18, 1951 in Detroit, Michigan, United States. He didn’t grow up with a full family because his parents were divorced and that really affected his childhood but through perseverance and determination he was able to carve out a niche for himself.

He was trained by his mother Sonya Copeland who did everything she could as a mother to take care of her children and her motherly affection towards them guided them in the right direction.

Sonya always made them believe that there was hope for the future and the need to believe in themselves and not indulge in a bad life.

Ben actually heeded his mother’s advice, he took his college work seriously, which made him stand out as one of the best in his class during his high school years at Southwestern High School.

During his studies, he was honored as one of the best graduate students and his outstanding performance enabled him to attend the University. Ben went to Yale University and studied psychology and graduated in 1973.

After graduating from Yale University, BenCarson wanted to continue his education and earn a medical degree. He enrolled in medical school at Michigan State University and studied medicine, but also majored in neurosurgery. He received his Masters of Science from the University of Michigan.

Professional career

After graduating from medical school, Dr. Ben Carson became a board-certified neurosurgeon and was offered a job at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. Ben worked there as a resident neurosurgeon and based on his excellent performance, he became a hotspot for international hospitals. At that time, neurosurgeons were in demand because there were few doctors who specialized in this field of medicine. Dr Ben Carson was invited in 1983 to work at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in Perth, Australia.

However, after a few months of practice at SCGen Australia, Ben returned to his base in Baltimore and continued to work with Johns Hopskin Hospital in 1985. After a year of practice, Ben was promoted and became director of pediatric neurosurgery. He also worked as co-director at the craniofacial center of the same hospital.

At the height of his career, the talented and intelligent surgeon achieved a remarkable feat in the field of medicine. Ben and his team of co-surgeons managed to separate seven-month-old male twins in Germany and he was the first person to do so at that time.

Subsequently, the magic brain surgeontreated a similar case with another conjoined twin in South Africa. It was quite unfortunate that the babies died after the surgery. It was very sad for Ben and his team, but it didn’t deter him, it inspired him to do more.

A few years later, Ben and his team went to Zambia with the aim of separating the twins (Luka and Joseph) joined at the top of their heads. The operation lasted 28 hours and was finally successful, both babies were safe and sound.
