Call military to order to avoid coup – Seun Kuti urges FG, Sanwo-Olu

Grammy-nominated Afrobeat artist, Seun Kuti, has called on the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and the Federal Government to take decisive action against the military in order to prevent a coup d’état. He made this appeal in response to the reported derogatory treatment of the Governor by unidentified soldiers following the arrest of one of their colleagues for a traffic violation.

Kuti emphasized the need to contain the military’s excesses, cautioning that the repercussions would extend beyond civilians to politicians if left unchecked. He also ridiculed the soldiers for threatening to “humiliate” a social media influencer for applauding Sanwo-Olu’s actions, highlighting the military’s tendency to intimidate civilians while retreating from confrontations with terrorists.

During an Instagram live session with his fans, Kuti urged the authorities to address the situation, warning of the potential consequences if the military’s conduct remains unchecked. He urged both Sanwo-Olu and other politicians to recognize the threat posed by the military’s unruliness, drawing attention to the historical vulnerability of civilians and politicians to the actions of the armed forces.

Furthermore, he addressed the soldier who had threatened the social media influencer, issuing a stern warning that any harm to the individual would not go unpunished. He underscored the military’s selective display of power, contrasting their behavior towards civilians with their reluctance to confront Boko Haram, and highlighted their dependence on civilian support in the fight against terrorists.
