Celine Dion ‘no longer has control over muscles, singer’s sister reveals

The older sister of Canadian singer Celine Dion, Claudette, has revealed that Celine is struggling with a lack of control over her muscles. This is due to her ongoing battle with stiff person syndrome, a progressive and incurable neurological disorder that affects mobility.

Claudette expressed that Celine’s return to the stage may be delayed due to the impact of the disorder on her muscles. She mentioned that despite Celine’s hard work and discipline, the lack of control over her muscles is heartbreaking. The goal to return to the stage remains a dream for both Celine and her family, but the way forward is uncertain.

Stiff person syndrome, being a rare condition, has made research progress slow, as it affects a limited number of people. This has resulted in fewer treatment options and research initiatives. However, Celine’s charity, Fondation Maman Dion, has received an outpouring of support and messages for the singer.

Claudette also shared that despite efforts to find effective medication and working with leading researchers, Celine’s health has not shown significant improvement. Nonetheless, the family continues to hold onto hope and appreciate the love and prayers offered by well-wishers.

In October, Claudette mentioned that Celine was not reliant on a wheelchair and still had plans to perform in the future. The specifics of her return to the stage, however, remain uncertain in light of the challenges posed by stiff person syndrome.
