Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has been advised by Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher to seek a move away from the club during the January transfer window.
Carragher’s comments came after Ramsdale once again remained on the bench while David Raya played in Arsenal’s 2-2 draw against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
The former defender also suggested that Ramsdale was being insincere in his reaction to Raya’s crucial save during the North London derby, adding that the England goalkeeper would be “absolutely devastated.”
“If he [Aaron] got an opportunity at a decent club and Arsenal were happy with that, I think he will be leaving in January,” Carragher said on Sky Sports.
“He has performed well at Arsenal, better than many expected,” Carragher continued. “Arsenal may consider selling him to generate some profit. It could be a possibility in January.”
Regarding having two goalkeepers of equal caliber at a club, Carragher commented, “You never have two goalkeepers at the same level at a club, especially top keepers.”
While acknowledging that Arteta’s decision is ruthless, Carragher doesn’t believe Ramsdale will regain his position as the number one goalkeeper and advised him to seek a move. “If he can secure a transfer in January and Arsenal can receive a good fee, it could happen,” Carragher said.
Carragher also shared his amusement at Ramsdale’s reaction to Raya’s save. “You know when someone loses an Oscar and they’re clapping and smiling for the winner? I laughed when I saw that. He’ll be absolutely devastated,” Carragher added.
