Youth and career
Jake Marisnick was born Jacob Shawn Marisnick on March 30, 1991 in Riverside, California. Growing up, Marisnick revealed that he was a huge football and baseball fan. He played both sports from a young age until high school at Riverside Polytechnic High School, where he decided to focus on just one.
Marisnick was considered a very well rated entrant into his senior year. It was thought he would be a first-round pick in the next release. However, after a poor performance in high school where he recorded his lowest batting average in high school, he decided to go to college by committing to the University of Oregon.. But as things were going to go well, Marisnick didn’t have to travel to Oregon, having been selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the third round of the 2009 MLB Draft.
Jake Marisnick went on to play for a number of minor league teams for a period of four years before starting to win plaudits again. The player was named baseball’s 58th top prospect by MLB.com for the 2012 season. In November of that year, the Blue Jays traded him and several other players to the Miami Marlins. It was here that Marisnick got his best result after playing for the Jacksonville Suns, a Double-A branch of its parent division. His performances with the team earned him a promotion to the Marlins, as he made his major league baseball debut on July 23, 2013.
Marisnick had a good start to life as a big league player. It took him just three days before he could register his first hit, out of Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Jeff Locke. A few days later, on July 31, 2013, Marisnick scored his first career win in a game against the New York Mets. He remained with the team until he was traded to the New York Zephyrs of the Class AAA Pacific Coast League in March 2014, before being traded to the Houston Astros a few months later.
In the 2014 season as part of the Astros, Jake Marisnick played in 51 games in which he compiled a .272 batting average with 3 homers, 19 RBIs and 6 stolen bases. He enjoyed an even better 2015 season, where he recorded a .236 batting average and a .665 POPS in 133 games and 339 at bats. Marisnick was unable to maintain his form for the 2016 season, so he opted for the Fresno Grizzlies of the Pacific Coast League, an affiliate of the Astros’ Triple-A group.
In 2017, Marisnick returned to the Astros appeared in 106 games in which he averaged 243, 16 hits and 35 points. Marisnick unfortunately didn’t make the team in the 2017 playoffs as he suffered from an injury. He was, however, part of the 40-person roster team that won the 2017 World Series.
