Joan Banning Obituary, Death – At three minutes past five o’clock in the morning on Monday, November 20, 2023, Joan Banning, who was 94 years old and lived in Shelbyville, Illinois, passed away at Shelbyville Manor.
On Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at 11:30 a.m., funeral services will be place at the Howe & Yockey Funeral Home in Shelbyville, Illinois. The Reverend Greg Breeden will preside over the ceremony.
Please come to the funeral home on Tuesday between the hours of 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. for visitation. The interment will take place at Glenwood Cemetery in Shelbyville, Illinois. It is possible to make memorial contributions to the Shelby County Senior Center. Granville and Maurine (Smith) Hodson welcomed their daughter Joan into the world on May 15, 1929 in Lakewood, Illinois. Joan was their daughter.
Her high school of graduation was Cowden High School. In Cowden, Illinois, on July 23, 1949, Joan tied the knot with Eldon Dean Banning. He passed away on May 9, 2013, after having preceded her in death. During their retirement years, Joan and Eldon put in a lot of effort to transform her childhood house, which had become overgrown, into an exquisite country getaway that they named Hodson Hills.
Birdwatching, gardening, sewing, and baking were among of Joan’s favorite hobbies, and she cherished her huge family. Shelbyville’s First United Methodist Church was her place of worship, and she was a member there.
She is survived by her children: Kathie Storm of Lakewood, IL, Dianne (Mike) Shallenberger, Doug (Kristi) Banning and Tina (Louie) Donnel all of Shelbyville, IL; sisters, Emma Nelle Bates of Shelbyville, IL, and Doris Soldner of Effingham, IL; 11 grandchildren, Lia Koehler (Kris), Evan Russell (Rebecca), Doug Storm (Sarah), Ian Storm (Jill), Josh Shallenberger (Shannon), Kristen Runyon (Stephen), Jennifer Heckler (Matt), Kelli Cothern (Wes), Amy Stockdale (Brad), Erin Chambers, and Cory Donnel; 32 great grandchildren, Charlie Russell, Jordan and Christian Sieger, Adam and Peter Storm, Elliot, Oliver and Jasper Storm, Kiley Jo Shallenberger, Samantha Westrich (Ben), Shelby Hendrix, Ella and Luke Perona, Gunner Runyon, Grace, Lucas, and Natalie Heckler, Carter, Ava, and Noah Cothern, Peighto. Her parents, her husband, Eldon, her son-in-law, Neil Storm, her brother, Robert Hodson, and her sisters, Kathaleen Licklider and Ruth Elliot, all passed away before she did.
