1. She comes from a family of artists.
Jocelyn Towne was born on August 8, 1976, in Nevada City, California, to a screenwriter/film producer father, Roger Towne (b. 1940), whose credits include; The Natural (1984), In the Company of Spies (1999), The Recruit (2003) and The Natural.
His uncle, Robert Towne, that of his father-elder brother is even a screenwriter and a more renowned filmmaker. He is credited with being part of the New Hollywood cinematographic wave. His original screenplay for Chinatown (1974) by Roman Polanski has been named one of the greatest screenplays ever written. It even won an Oscar and a Golden Globe for Best Original Screenplay.
Jocelyn’s uncle, Robert Twone, is also known for working with action star Tom Cruise. He co-wrote and co-directed two Mission Impossible films. His most recent project is directing the romantic crime drama Ask the Dust (2006).
Her (Robert Towne’s) cousins Chiara Towe and Kathrine Towne (Charlie Hunnam’s former wife) are both actresses.
2. Jocelyn Towne originally aspired to be a dancer
Jocelyn didn’t know right away that this movie was her calling. As a young girl, she developed a passion for dancing and even hoped to turn professional. As a result, she enrolled at Alvin Ailey in New York. However, as fate would have it, Jocelyn then moved to Los Angeles to pursue her career there.
3. Her father’s DNA has been written and she is not only an actress, but also a producer and director.
In addition to dancing, Jocelyn, influenced by her father, developed an early interest in literature and began to write. “I was always interested in writing from a young age. I think that was definitely a huge influence from my dad, because I always watched him write in his office…” the actress told the Kickstarter blog.
In order to hone her artistic skills, Towne enrolled in the Santa Monica Crossroads School of Arts and Sciences. She attended UC Berkeley, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Comparative Literature.
4. She made her directorial debut with I AM I (2013) and her husband, Simon Helberg, lends a hand.
Jocelyn has done a great job following in her dad’s footsteps. In 2013, she wrote, directed and starred in her first film I AM I. Her husband Helberg played a lead role in the film. To promote and raise funds for her film, Jocelyn launched a Kickstarter campaign. The film is about a woman (Jocelyn) who pretends to be her mother so she can have a relationship with her delusional father.

5. Her relationship with Helberg (before marriage) went through a rough patch and they joined forces to make a movie out of it.
Jocelyn and Helberg dated five years before marrying in 2007, Helberg broke up with her for a while to reunite with his ex-girlfriend whom he had followed to Paris. However, in Paris, the ex-president would cheat on him with another man, forcing him to realize that Jocelyn was his true love after all. He returned to the United States to propose to Jocelyn. The couple made a movie called ‘We’ll Never Have Paris (2014)’ about the breakup.
