Kanye West’s Donda Academy closes for the rest of academic school year amid recent anti-semitic comments

The Donda Academy, an educational institution founded by Kanye West, has ceased operations for the current academic year following the controversial anti-semitic remarks made by the rapper. According to a communication sent to parents by the school’s principal, Jason Angell, the closure was decided by the academy’s founder, Kanye West, and is effective immediately for the remainder of the 2022-2023 school year. The principal’s email also informed parents that there would be no classes the following day, indicating the sudden nature of the closure.

The Donda Academy, named in honor of Kanye West’s late mother, began its operations in August 2022 in Simi Valley, Calif., and charged an annual tuition fee of $15,000. The school received attention for requiring parents to sign nondisclosure agreements to maintain confidentiality about school-related activities and materials.

While Kanye West’s own children do not attend Donda Academy, the rapper had reportedly urged his ex-wife, Kim Kardashian, to enroll their four kids at the school. He had even proposed a revised schedule for their attendance, but the sudden closure announcement has disrupted these plans. The academy’s email mentioned plans to “begin afresh in September of 2023,” indicating a potential reopening for the next academic year.

The leadership team at Donda Academy has committed to assisting families during this transition, ensuring a smooth and prompt transfer for scholars to new educational communities. The message expressed confidence in the students’ ability to continue their academic advancement and make significant contributions as future leaders and innovators.

Kanye West has faced swift consequences for his offensive statements, with major business partners such as Adidas, Gap, and Balenciaga severing ties with the artist. His controversial remarks regarding Jewish people resulted in financial repercussions, including being removed from the Forbes billionaire list as a result of Adidas terminating its partnership with him.
