From winning the Miss Florida beauty pageant to sports journalism, Laura Rutledge has done well. She currently works for CNN International and ESPN. She got the biggest break of her reporting career in 2014 when ESPN signed her to its SEC Network to be its main host. On SEC, Laura covers basketball, baseball, football, softball and more.

Laura was born as Laura McKeeman on October 2, 1988, in St. Petersburg, Florida, United States. She grew up pond fishing and in elementary school aspired to be a marine biologist. “I was always picking up fish in the gulf. I wanted to be a marine biologist all through elementary school,” she told the Tampa Bay Times.
However, her interest turned away from science when her family moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where Laura became fascinated with geography and meteorology. After a few years in Atlanta, Laura’s family moved back to Florida where she will attend Celebration High School in Kissimmee. In high school, Laura developed another interest: dancing. After graduating from high school, she planned to attend ballet school, but later moved to the University of Florida where she studied broadcast journalism. She initially aspired to cover general news, however, due to lack of openings, she decided to focus on sports broadcasting. Laura started her career as a sideline reporter covering Tampa Bay Rays games for Fox Sports. Thereafter, she covered games for the San Diego Padres. Laura also worked for Fox College Sports, covering the 2012 NCPA National Paintball Championship in Lakeland, Florida.
Covering the Tampa Bay Rays, Laura entered the Miss Florida 2012 pageant and was crowned the winner. She performed a ballet routine as her competition talent. Prior to entering the pageant, Laura had won $16,000 for her crown.
As part of her winning prize, she qualified for the 2013 Miss America competition where she also performed ballet as a competitor. However, she was beaten to the title by Miss New York, Mallory Hagan. Laura had been eliminated in the Top 16.
Prior to entering the Miss Florida pageant, Lauran had competed in beauty pageant only once, in 2010. It was a pageant at a school during her freshman year of college and her friends had her forced to participate. She was the first finalist to win the $1,000 scholarship prize.

Joshua Alan Rutledge was born on April 21, 1989, making him a year younger than his wife. He was raised in Birmingham, Alabama. He attended Cullman High School, where he played baseball and was a 4-year-old starter. As a senior in 2007, Josh led his team to the state championship.
