Speaking to journalists in Iyin Ekiti, Ekiti State, Bamidele emphasized the government’s commitment to prosecuting economic saboteurs causing hardships for Nigerians. He outlined plans to invest in agriculture, agro-allied industries, and solid mineral potential.
Bamidele revealed that the National Assembly would accelerate the budget passage by convening all relevant committees of both the Senate and House of Representatives to reduce the time for budget defense. He also addressed the plan to eliminate fuel subsidy, stating that it sparked resistance from those who benefited from the subsidy regime.
In addition, he emphasized the government’s determination to confront speculators and ensure the availability of naira to the public. Bamidele reaffirmed the long-term consequences for those manipulating exchange rates and commodity prices to escape justice.
The Senate Majority Leader also highlighted the government’s focus on increasing daily crude oil production and accelerating the implementation of the 2024 appropriation bill. He indicated the Senate’s willingness to reconvene on December 29 and work through weekends to achieve the December 30 passage deadline, anticipating President’s assent by January 1, 2024.
