Rinko Kikuchi (菊地 凛子, Kikuchi Rinko), known as Yuriko Kikuchi (菊地 百合子, Kikuchi Yuriko), was born on January 6, 1981, in Hadano, Kanagawa. She is a prominent Japanese film actress who made history as the first Japanese actress to be nominated for an Academy Award in 50 years, for her role in Babel (2006). Kikuchi has also appeared in Guillermo del Toro’s 2013 science fiction action film Pacific Rim, and enjoys widespread recognition in Japan.
