Following a murder case in Northern Cyprus in 2019, a court has handed down jail terms to three individuals connected to the killing of Nigerian student Walshak Augustine Ngok.
The verdict was delivered by Court president Nüvit Gazi, Senior Judge Şerife Kâtip, and Judge Umut İnan of Lefkosa High Criminal Court on Monday, May 10, 2021.
The primary suspect, Christopher Ezeh, a Nigerian, received a 27-year sentence, while Nana Nkansah, a Ghanaian, and Wayne Moyo, a Zimbabwean who assisted in transporting the body, were each sentenced to three years.
Following the discovery of 25-year-old Walshak Ngok’s body in a forest area along Haspolat – Tashkent highway on Friday, April 19, a total of 11 males and 1 female were initially arrested.
Christopher Ezeh later admitted to killing his roommate Augustine after a dispute and moving his body to a forest area. Allegedly, the suspect and the victim, both under the influence of alcohol, had a confrontation over a girl while in the company of friends at a restaurant in Girne.
Despite efforts by friends to intervene before the police arrived, the altercation resumed at their residence.
Reportedly, Christopher brutally assaulted Walshak Augustine, rendering him unconscious, and then continued to attack him as he lay helpless at the foot of the apartment stairs.
After realizing that Augustine was not breathing, Christopher allegedly left him at the entrance of the forest area instead of seeking medical assistance.
The other convicts, found guilty of causing someone’s death through recklessness, claimed they were unable to restrain Eze due to the intensity of his anger.
