Verne Lundquist is a popular American sportscaster with over 5 decades of broadcasting experience. Since he began his media career in 1962, nothing has stopped him; he continued to work for several networks. Before retiring from broadcasting college football games in 2016, he was previously the lead announcer for CBS college football coverage.

He has won numerous awards for his commentary. He was inducted into the National Sportscaster Hall of Fame and the Sportswriter Association in 2007.

Merton Laverne Lundquist Jr popularly known as Verne Lundquist was born on July 17, 1940 in Duluth, Minnesota, United States of America. He is of American nationality and belongs to the North American ethnicity. He attended high school in Austin, Texas. After graduating from high school, he attended Texas Lutheran University. During his years at the University, he exerted great influence and became a co-founder of the Omega Tau Fraternity which was founded in 1958. He finally graduated from the University in 1962. He is currently a member of the board of directors of his former alma mater.

After graduating from Texas Lutheran University in 1962, Lundquist attended Augustana Seminary in Rock Island, Illinois, where his father was pastor of the Augustana Lutheran Church. In seminary, he put his talent to good use by preaching during seminary classes and captivating seminary members with his use of words.

He started his broadcasting career at KTBCTV where he worked as a sports director before moving to WFAA-TV. For 12 years, he worked as a sports anchor at AT WDAA-TV and received a prestigious award for his unparalleled contribution to the growth and success of the organization. In 1974, he moved to ABC Sports where he worked as a commentator on the sports show, Bowling for Dollars, in Dallas, Texas, which aired on the ABC station. He worked at ABC Sports for 7 years.

In 1982, the CBS network offered him a contract. He worked for the network for 13 years before being transferred to TNT in 1995. His time at TNT was quite brief. In 1998, he returned to the CBS network which he felt provided the perfect platform for his career. He works as a sports anchor for the CBS network and provides commentary for The Masters and PGA Championships. He also comments on sports like boxing, gymnastics, swimming, diving and horse racing.

On December 10, 2016, Lundquist retired from calling college football games after calling the Army-Navy game. He did, however, promise to contribute to all other CBS sports programs, including the golf and college basketball programs. Nonetheless, he was unable to work at the 2018 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament following back surgery he underwent in November 2017.

Verne Lundquist was married three times in his life. He married his first wife Patricia on June 24, 1967, but the marriage was short-lived and ended abruptly. The couple separated on July 23, 1971. Shortly after, he married his second wife, Kathy Vernon, on March 10, 1972. They were together for about eight years before their love soured and they divorced on November 26, 1980.

In 1982, he married his third and present wife, Nancy Lundquist, whom he met at an Arthur’s bar in 1980. The couple were able to maintain the love in their marriage, which Lundquist claims was the result good mutual understanding and good mutual relations.

He is blessed with a son named Vaughan Matthew Lundquist whom he had with his lovely wife Nancy Lundquist.
