Following allegations of rape and other charges, disgraced porn star Ron Jeremy has been deemed incompetent to stand trial and committed to a state mental health hospital, as confirmed by a spokesperson for the Los Angeles District Attorney on Tuesday, February 7.
Greg Risling, spokesperson for the district attorney’s office, stated that Jeremy could be held for a maximum of two years and that a hearing on his progress is set for May 8.
The 69-year-old former adult entertainer, indicted on 30 counts of sexual abuse by 21 victims, some as young as 15 years old, had initially pleaded not guilty.
Prosecutors alleged that Jeremy, also known as Ronald Jeremy Hyatt, had restrained some of the women and engaged in non-consensual sex acts while others were sleeping or unconscious.
In January, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Ronald S. Harris ruled that Jeremy was unfit to assist in his defense, citing his attorney Stuart Goldfarb. Harris emphasized that the former porn star suffered from an ‘incurable neurocognitive decline,’ following medical reports of dementia, incoherence, and hearing loss.
Jeremy, a prominent figure in the adult film industry with a filmography of over 2,000 movies since the 1970s, has been imprisoned since his arrest in 2020.
The Associated Press reported that a hearing on whether Jeremy should be placed in a state hospital would take place the following month.
Lianne Young, a former British porn star known as Billie Britt, accused Jeremy of assaulting her at a Halloween party on the Sunset Strip in 2000.
Recounting the incident, Young stated that Jeremy forced himself on her at the former House of Blues during a porn industry Halloween party, with several industry executives as witnesses who did not intervene.
Speaking on the defendant’s mental incompetency leading to the decision not to stand trial, Young expressed feeling ‘numb,’ mentioning that awareness of his condition existed before involving the victims.
