Katherine Rooney Mara was born on February 27, 1983 in Bedford, New York, USA.
Mara graduated from Fox Lane High School a year earlier and was accepted into the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University.
Mara starred in the Netflix political drama House of Cards (2013), as Zoe Barnes and appeared in the Fox series 24 (2001), as computer analyst Shari Rothenberg, and in the FX horror miniseries American Horror Story: Murder House like Hayden McClaine.
Mara’s film debut was in Fate Games (1999), with Harrison Ford, which was directed by Sydney Pollack. In film he has also appeared in Brokeback Mountain (2005), Somos Marshall (2006), Tirador (2007), Transsiberian (2008), Stone of Destiny ( 2008), The Open Road (2009), Transcender (2014) and Fantastic Four (2015).
In 2015 she had a supporting role as astronaut Beth Johanssen in the film Rescue Mission, by director Ridley Scott. A year later she starred in Morgan, directed by Luke Scott.
Mara is one of the faces of the Humane Society of the United States. In 2015, she appeared in one of their campaign videos to promote Meatless Monday, a global movement that tries to persuade people not to eat meat on Mondays.
In late 2015, Mara began dating Jamie Bell , her Fantastic Four co-star ; the couple became engaged in January 2017 and married on July 17 of that same year.
