The National Universities Commission (NUC) has conducted a resource verification exercise to assess the human and material resources available for the proposed Wigwe University campus in Isiokpo, Ikeerre Local Government Area, Rivers State.
During the reception of the NUC verification team, Mr Chris Maiyaki, the Acting Executive Secretary of NUC, commended Dr Herbert Wigwe, the Chancellor of the proposed University, for establishing the necessary structures for a smooth university launch.
Maiyaki expressed confidence in the Principal Officers of the University, emphasizing their capability to effectively manage the institution’s affairs.
The verification exercise aligns with NUC’s mandate of ensuring that the university meets globally accepted standards in terms of capacity for program delivery.
“We are here to evaluate your capability statements, assess your level of preparedness, and determine the quantity and quality of resources and facilities available,” stated Maiyaki. “This assignment is crucial and pivotal as it will pave the way for admissions to take place.”
Dr Wigwe, in his speech, highlighted the importance of establishing the right education system across the country to facilitate national development.
“By sending our children overseas to school, we only export our talents. They excel there and end up working abroad,” said Dr Wigwe. “A strong education is the most enduring gift for the future and the only way to address the challenges facing tertiary institutions.”
