According to a new report, Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract with Saudi Arabia’s Al-Nassr includes a clause that could enable him to return to the Premier League by joining Newcastle United if they secure a top-four finish.
It had been suggested that Ronaldo, upon becoming a free agent, was looking to play Champions League football. However, he chose to move to Saudi Arabia instead of staying in Europe.
Marca has reported that Ronaldo may make a sooner-than-expected return to the Premier League. His new contract reportedly includes a clause allowing him to join Newcastle, managed by Eddie Howe, on loan if they achieve a top-four finish and qualify for the Champions League in the 2023-24 season.
Following the takeover of Newcastle by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund in October 2021, significant investments in players have lifted the club from a relegation-threatened position to a potential spot in Europe’s top club competition within the last 15 months.
Currently, the Magpies are in third place in the Premier League, trailing reigning champions Manchester City and Arsenal.
Ronaldo is expected to make his debut for Al-Nassr against Al Ta’ee on Thursday, January 5, following his medical.
