Carol Christine Hilaria Pounder was born on December 25, 1952, in Georgetown, British Guiana, to Ronald Urlington Pounder and Betsy Enid Arnella (née James). She was raised on a sugar cane plantation and, together with her sister, attended a convent boarding school in Britain.
Pounder’s love of performance grew in boarding school where she would often perform with her dorm mates with a flashlight after the lights went out.
“I would be Count Dracula, or Shakespeare, or Yogi Bear, and jump from bunk to bunk,” the actress told the media. “I loved the laughter. I liked the way people feel.
At the age of 18 in 1970, Pounder moved to the United States where she would come to attend Ithaca College. While studying in New York, Pounder began acting in theatre, appearing in Broadway’s Open Admissions and Richard Wesley’s The Mighty Gents.
Subsequently, she dabbled in film, making her debut in All That Jazz (1979). To improve her chances in an acting career, Pounder moved to Los Angeles in 1982. She landed small roles in a number of movies and TV shows and in 1987 she got her starring role in the role of Brenda at the Bagdad Café. Pounder in 1994 received her first Emmy nomination for Outstanding Actress for her guest starring role as Agent Lucy Kazdin in an episode of The X-Files. That same year, she appeared in the ER as Dr. Angela Hicks. For this role, she received two Image Award nominations and an Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress.
In film, his notable credits included DemonChevalier, Face to Face and End of Days. And then came the new millennium when Pounder focused more on the small screen, appearing as a guest on several shows such as The West Wing and Law and Order: SVU. From 2002 to 2008, Pounder played Claudette Wyms on The Shield. This role earned her a Satellite Award for Best Actress and an Emmy Award nomination. She also received an Emmy Award nomination in 2009 for her guest role on the No. 1 Female Detective Agency.
Other TV credits include Warehouse 13, Sons of Anarchy A and of course NCIS: New Orleans. After a period of television silence, Pounder portrayed the role of Mo’at in Avatar (2009). In 2017, it was revealed that she would reprise the role in subsequent sequels, slated for release in 2020, 2021, 2024, and 2025. CCH Pounder has lent her voice to a number of video game characters, including Amanda Waller in Batman: Arkham Origins.

He attended the Institute of International Journalism in Strasbourg, France. Kone was a member of the Daka African Religions Systems Thought Study.
Pounder and her husband shared a passion for the arts which might be what attracted them to each other. Together they co-founded the Boribana Museum in Dakar, Senegal in 1993. This museum was the first contemporary art museum in Dakar. In 2014, they offered the museum to the people of Senegal.
The couple also joined forces to found the Pounder-Kone art space in Los Angeles. They had 5 children together including Cheik, Aisha, Awa, Noah and Mariama.
