Just In: Lagos Govt Reopens Mile 12 Market

The Mile 12 International Market in Lagos State has been reopened by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration. This decision comes after the market, along with Owode Onirin Market, was closed to address issues of indiscriminate dumping and burning of trash. According to Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner of Environment and Water Resources, the sealing of the markets was a result of their filthy state, including clogged drainage systems and illegal parking practices that obstructed traffic flow. The reopening of the Mile 12 market follows a thorough assessment of environmental compliance, waste management procedures, and overall cleanliness within the market. Wahab emphasized the government’s commitment to addressing environmental, public health, and safety concerns, and urged traders to adhere to hygiene standards to avoid further closures. He also stated that ongoing enforcement measures are necessary to ensure compliance with environmental standards and safety regulations.
