BIOGRAPHY
Born in Mexico City, to a Chilean father and a Mexican mother, Karla Souza then grew up in the United States. Enchanted by an extra, at age 7, in the film Aspen Extreme , the young woman intended for a career as an actress. Thus, she successively studied drama in a famous Mexican establishment, then joined a traveling theater troupe in France. Auditioning for the show “Star Academy”, Karla Souza finally declines her participation following her admission to a prestigious school in London. Fluent in English, Spanish and French, the young graduate returned to her native country where she began in 2009 in telenovelas ( Verano de Amor , Los Héroes del Norte , La Clinica ), then in the feature film El efecto tequila , recounting the crisis Mexican economy of 1994.
In 2011, Karla Souza obtained a supporting role in From Prada to Nada , a modern transposition of Jane Austen ‘s novel , “Reasons and Feelings”. She then excelled in the romantic comedy register ( 31 days , Me Late Chocolate ) and became the most bankable actress in Mexico thanks to Nosotros Los Nobles then Neither Recaptured nor Exchanged , real box office successes . Building on this promising momentum, Karla Souza moved to Los Angeles in 2014 and wasted no time in being cast for the roles of Michaela Pratt and Rebecca Sutter in the series How To Get Away with Murder . Shonda Rhimes ‘ production instead offers her that of Laurel Castillo, a reserved student but essential to the smooth running of Annalize Keating’s ( Viola Davis ) group, whose Latin origins she proudly shares. Alongside her growing notoriety in the United States, the actress remains headlining in her native country with The Best Is Coming and Everybody Loves Somebody .
