Manchester United considers Graham Potter as replacement for embattled Ten Hag

Recent reports suggest that former Chelsea manager Graham Potter is being considered to replace under-fire Dutch coach, Erik ten Hag, at Manchester United.

The pressure on Ten Hag intensified after Manchester United’s 1-0 Champions League home defeat to Bayern Munich on Tuesday.

United’s early exit from Europe was marked by their lowest-ever group-stage points tally of four, finishing at the bottom of Group A.

Following the back-to-back home defeats, including the heavy loss to bitter rivals Liverpool, it is speculated that the upcoming match against Liverpool could be the final straw for the former Ajax manager.

SunSport reports that incoming Manchester United investor, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, has met with Potter and reportedly favors him as the potential new boss at Old Trafford if Ten Hag is dismissed.

Notably, Jose Mourinho was removed as manager following a 3-1 loss to Jurgen Klopp’s side in December 2018.

Potter, aged 48, has been without a managerial position since his dismissal from Chelsea in April, after less than a season in charge. However, Ratcliffe remains a staunch admirer of the former Swansea and Brighton boss and had expressed interest in bringing him to French side Nice.

The English billionaire is expected to acquire a 25% stake in United next week and will assume immediate control of the football operations at the club.

These developments come following Potter turning down the opportunity to become the manager of Championship side Stoke earlier this week.

Ten Hag is Manchester United’s fifth permanent manager since Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure following the 2012-13 Premier League title triumph.
