Napoli’s manager, Walter Mazzarri, stressed the importance of safeguarding the club’s key striker, Victor Osimhen.
Osimhen received a red card in the Partenopei’s recent 2-0 defeat to AS Roma, resulting in his absence for the upcoming clash with Monza on Friday.
Mazzarri mentioned that he has forgiven Osimhen for his sending off, acknowledging the pressure on the 24-year-old following a successful season and his return from injury, coupled with the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations participation.
During a press conference on Thursday, Mazzarri stated, “Perhaps he felt the pressure after such a great season. Unfortunately, he was returning from an injury, and now he will play in the Africa Cup of Nations. I pardon him [for the red card] because he must be protected.”
