Julen Lopetegui, a former Premier League manager, is reportedly a front-runner to take over from Erik ten Hag at Manchester United, ahead of Zinedine Zidane, Graham Potter, and Roberto De Zerbi.
Ten Hag is facing mounting pressure at Old Trafford following Manchester United’s elimination from the Champions League on Tuesday night, losing 1-0 to Bayern Munich.
The Dutchman has been criticized for his signings, playing style, and handling of certain players, including Jadon Sancho.
Some pundits have called for Ten Hag’s dismissal and the appointment of a new manager.
According to Spanish outlet Relevo, Lopetegui, who previously managed Premier League club Wolves, has emerged as a leading candidate due to his proficiency in English and understanding of the Premier League, as well as his experience in European competitions.
Additionally, Lopetegui is believed to have earned the admiration of Manchester United’s board due to his strong relationships with current players Casemiro and Raphael Varane in the dressing room.
The 57-year-old has been without a job since leaving Wolves in August.
